The 5/6 students at TMC have been registered for the Student Vote program for the upcoming federal election. Student Vote is a parallel election for students under the voting age, coinciding with federal, provincial, territorial and municipal elections. The purpose is to provide young Canadians with an opportunity to experience the voting process firsthand and build the habits of informed and engaged citizenship.

The students are very excited and feel privileged to have these very busy leaders take the time to meet with them during their full schedules. We look forward to learning more about these candidates as the students prepare to vote along with over 700,000 other students across Canada.

If you have any questions regarding the program and the visits please feel free to contacts us. We are excited by the potential of the home discussions that may come from this event.

    This Week - September 30 - October 4, 2019

    Humanities

    • In Language Arts this week, students work on writing more complex sentences to build stronger sentence structure. They will use these new skills to apply ideas from the Bowmont Park field trip to descriptive writing

    Science:
    • Students have been given a 'Four Levels of the Forest' visual assignment to be completed in their visual journals.  They have pasted a more detailed rubric into their journals, the main requirements are as follows:
      • Draw of a typical Alberta forest, as demonstrated in class.  This will be one full page (portrait) in their visual journal.
      • The forest must show the four levels.  The 4 layers are:  1. Canopy,  2. Understory,  3. Shrubbery, 4. Forest Floor.  The page ahead of their picture is where the information and labels will go. (The corresponding label and picture will be in the same spot on two successive pages).  Students have been shown exactly what to do.
      • On the page in front of the detailed artwork there must be labels for each level (front of flap) AND descriptive information about each level(back of flap).  After information in written in the correct places, the labels will be cut as shown in class.
      • MINIMUM of 3 animals, 3 plants and 3 characteristics in each level of the forest (back of flap) to match their picture. Include deciduous and coniferous plants native to Alberta.

** This has been well explained extensively in class, as I know the directions sound tricky. Students have 5 in class periods (3 left) to complete this and clarify instructions if needed, some may want to work on it as homework as well.
