Week of January 27-31

Humanities:

  • Students were assigned a visual journal assignment to complete based on the levels of government. Instructions for the assignment are on last week's agenda.
  • The levels of government final test is on Thursday. Students are encouraged to use resources in their red duo-tang to study.

Math:

  • Students have been using a number line to record decimals, fractions (mixed and improper) and percents.  The focus has been on using and articulating a variety of strategies (pictures, manipulatives, number lines, calculations).
  • Many have completed the fractions sheet homework, and with an unscheduled summit meeting at the end of the day, there was no time to assign a new one, so here is a question to work on if you are able.  We will review it together on Monday:
Movies are exactly two and a quarter hours long, and youtube videos are exactly one quarter of an hour each.  If you watch two and a half movies, how many youtube videos could you watch in the same amount of time?  Show your thinking and answer as a fraction.

Science:

  • We have started our next unit in Science, Sky Science. Our new project has been handed out....Whole Class Lunar Calendar.  Each student has a calendar and the following task in their duotangs.  Each student is responsible for one night for the next month. Most students have already chose their date and put it in the calendar.
Students, share the assignment with your parents, have fun with this!

Whole Class Lunar Calendar

Each night, one student in the class will be assigned the job of creating a visual representation of the moon phase.  Your work will be due within 3 days of your assigned night.
  1. Look at the moon on your night - try to see it in the sky, or check it on the internet**.
  2. Create a “visual representation”:
    1. Draw a picture - pencil crayon or pencil sketch
