Week of October 27 - Nov 01, 2019

Humanities:

  • We work on character development with a writing piece about a 'mysterious creature', including a descriptive paragraph about the creature and a choice of either an ad reporting a sighting or the legend of the creature
  • Charter of Rights projects due on Friday, November 01. Students will be presenting their slideshow to the class.

Math:

  • Students wrote their Number Concepts quiz this week and will be bringing the quiz home by Wednesday. 
Note *We have identified this topic as an area of growth for several students. Basic multiplication/division facts up to 81) are essential.  All students are strongly encouraged to continue working on this at home. Due to the importance of multiples/factors and applying place value number concepts to other areas of the math curriculum, we are offering support for Grade 6 students for would like additional assistance. The Grade 6 Math/Science team is going to offer weekly 'Math Support' sessions twice a week. They will be offered Monday at lunch in Mrs. Lowe's room during Lunch B (12:50 pm - 1:10 pm) and Thursday mornings in Mrs. Senholt's room, M116 (8:00 am - 8:20 am). Students may attend one or both sessions. 
  • We will start theoretical and experimental probability 

  • There are no Math Homework Duotangs this week. They will be sent them home next week. 

    Science:
    • Finishing up with Tree Research pages on four chosen trees. The task questions for each group are in Powerschool.
    • Presentations on Forest Jigsaw activity.  Students have all shared their project with their groups on Google drive and may have some editing and tweaking to do, but no one should have to do a tremendous amount of work over the weekend.   Groups working on:
     Task A: Trees and Forest will present Monday 
     Task B: Leaf Types and Shapes will present Tuesday
     Task C : Tree Anatomy will present Tuesday
     Task D: Forest Systems and Cycles will present Wednesday
    Art:
    • 6-1 and 6-2 Students will be working on artwork for their mysterious creature as well as our class Remembrance Day wreath
    • 6-2, Students finished a section of the 'window' grid and are beginning to piece it together with backgrounds.
    Reminders:
    • Grade 6 vaccinations October 29
    • Halloween Dance on October 31
    • November 1st system PD day, no classes
    • Check for unpaid field trip fees (Bowmont Park)
